Measure the usable internal span where the backdrop or piece will actually sit.
A practical guide to measuring a reptile enclosure for a custom backdrop: internal usable width, height, depth, tracks, vents, silicone, braces, lighting and other obstructions.
Use a rigid tape measure where possible and take each dimension at more than one point if the enclosure may not be perfectly square. Record whether your numbers are internal or external.
If you are unsure how much clearance a track or silicone bead needs, photograph it and leave the uncertainty visible in the enquiry. It is safer to confirm than to invent a precise number.

Take one full enclosure photo and close-ups of doors, tracks, vents, silicone joins, braces, cables, probes and any equipment or fixed feature near the intended work.
If the backdrop will be shipped or collected for you to install yourself, mention door opening sizes and any restrictions on getting a finished piece into position.
This helps us understand where each measurement belongs.
Tracks and fixed features can matter more than a few millimetres on the advertised size.
A note saying “not sure if this is usable width” is better than a confident but wrong figure.
Custom work starts with context. If you are unsure about a measurement or detail, leave it uncertain rather than guessing and we can tell you what matters.
For fitted backdrop work, internal usable measurements are normally more useful. External size can still be included as supporting information.
Take the measurement in more than one location and mention the variation. Photos can help show whether it is likely to affect fit.
Photograph them and provide their approximate intrusion where practical. The important point is not to pretend the full glass-to-glass span is usable if tracks or silicone occupy that space.
