Keep it dry
Shinglebacks are prone to respiratory problems in humid conditions. Use dry, loose substrate, ventilate well and avoid misting. On the east coast, an indoor enclosure is usually easier to keep dry than an outdoor pit.
Floor space over height
They’re ground dwellers that like to push through substrate and wedge into hides. Low ledges and a couple of snug hides suit them far better than tall climbing frames.
Feeding
Offer leafy greens, flowers, vegetables and a little fruit, with snails, insects or a quality protein a few times a week. Dust portions with calcium as advised by your vet.
Licensing
Native reptiles need a licence or permit in most Australian states and territories. Check with your state wildlife authority.
