Feeding blog · Australia

Variety is the best feeder insect.

No single insect gives a reptile everything. Australian keepers have a good range to choose from — mixing two or three, gut-loaded and dusted, beats feeding one forever.

A note on dubia roaches

Dubia roaches are popular overseas but aren’t available in Australia. Woodies are the closest local alternative.

Keeping insects alive

Crickets die quickly in cramped, damp tubs — give them space, egg-carton hides and dry food. Woodies need secure lids; they’re fast and good escapers.

Gut-loading and dusting

Feed insects greens and a quality insect diet for a day before offering them. Dust with calcium (and D3/vitamins on schedule) right before feeding.
